As our name indicates, our reputation was built on our design and manufacture of membrane switches. Built in Orange County, California for more than 20 years, our membrane switches are custom-designed for maximum reliability and performance in your specific application.

Will your product be used in an outdoor or indoor environment? Do you need materials which can withstand exposure to particular cleaning agents or need to survive in other harsh environments? Does your application demand a positive “snap” upon actuation of the switch, or is a touch sensor more appropriate? Does your user interface panel require extraordinary or unusual adhesion characteristics? Do you need a moisture-resistant or splash-proof construction? No matter the challenge, Membrane Switch and Panel offers solutions for your unique requirements.

Our products have been used in applications across a wide range of industries:

  • Medical (Diagnostic and Therapeutic)
  • Dental
  • Aerospace
  • Food Service
  • Beverage Dispensing
  • Exercise Equipment
  • Laser Part Marking
  • Test and Measurement
  • Automotive
  • Industrial Automation Equipment
  • Power Distribution
  • Military and Defense
  • Home Therapy and Patient Monitoring
Membrane switch panels support almost any application from rigid PCB designs to ultra-flexible membrane panels with surface mounted LEDs. Single panel or dual panel circuitry, EMI/RFI/ESD shielding, transparent windows, tinted lenses, embossing, tactile or discreet switches and colored LEDs are a few of the options we offer to fully fit our panels to your custom application.

Back-lighted panels are produced with high efficiency LED light sources utilizing proprietary light transfer, diffusion and reflection designs. The result is a brilliant uniform distribution of light in a variety of colors which can be used to enhance your graphic message.

Membrane switches have long been the industry standard in a variety of different applications and can be found across a wide range of industries. Simply a mechanical switch that is used in order to complete a circuit, the membrane switch is often the first choice when an economical, robust user interface is required. A typical membrane switch is a momentary, normally open switch created using a conductive stainless steel dome and its contact with a conductive printed circuit. The combination of the low-profile dome and flat printed silver circuit allow the membrane switch to used where little space is available, making it ideal for a wide variety of applications. Membrane switches can be arranged in a combination of individual circuits; schematic diagrams frequently feature common power or common ground connections which can reduce the total number of contacts (traces) required. Membrane switch circuits can also be arranged using an X,Y matrix, allowing functionality well beyond the total number of dome switches. Other electronics can be embedded within the laminated layers of the membrane switch, including low-profile indicator LEDs, LEDs for backlighting and other illumination requirements, resistors and potentiometers.

Membrane switch designs typically feature three discreet layers; the top layer directs the user to the functionality beneath by way of printed graphics. This layer is commonly referred to as the graphic overlay. The next layer contains the printed circuit, including the domes and embedded electronics of the membrane switch, as well as the flat flexible tail and specified connector. Finally, the bottom layer is usually made of a pressure-sensitive adhesive with a removable liner; the customer typically installs the finished membrane switch on their device before final assembly and test. Membrane Switch and Panel has worked with a range of different industries designing and manufacturing the ideal membrane switch for our customer’s unique needs and specifications. If you feel a membrane switch solution would be appropriate for your user interface, contact us today to assist in the design of the best membrane switch for your specific application.
